Hoboken Train Crash

Hoboken train crash kills 1 and injures more than 114

At 8:45am on September 28th a New Jersey train overran its stopping point, hit the bumper block, went airborne and hurtled through a passenger concourse. The woman killed was standing on the platform and was struck by flying debris. Bhagyesh Shan was riding in the back of the front car and   witness of the crash, he said that the train didn’t slow down or even stop when it came into the station. Suddenly he was on the floor with parts of the roof and debris beside him. The crash was 5 years after a similar crash occurred  in the same station where a train also did not stop and hit the bumper block as well, 30 people were injured in that crash and police are now investigating if the two have anything in common. A few days later they recovered a potentially key piece of evidence, an event recorder. The NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board) team in New Jersey says that they will never find a conclusion about what caused the crash. “The NTSB sent the recorder to its manufacturer in Kentucky for downloading,” said the NTSB Vice Chairman. They also interviewed the engineer at the controls of the train, Thomas Gallagher who says that he has absolutely no memory of the crash. Thomas told federal investigators that he came into the station at a reasonable 10 mph.
